Reading your meter

Water meters are the best way of managing your account. It’s not just because you pay for what you actually use (rather than a charge based on rateable value) but you can also keep track of your consumption and improve water efficiency. That can mean cost savings as well as environmental gains.

We'll read your meter twice a year. Please make sure we can access it when the reading is due.

You can reduce the number of estimated bills you receive and understand your consumption better by taking your own meter readings as well.

Simply find out where your meter is (we can help you if you don’t know), lift the hinged lid and make a note of the black numbers on a white background. These record the number of cubic metres (ignore the white numbers on red, as these refer to litres).

Then give us your reading or phone us on 0845 602 8855. Please make sure you have checked the serial number on the meter so that the read will be for your meter and will be correct. We'll ask you to confirm it matches our records to make sure that we bill you accurately.
